It’s that time of year again where people throughout southern California get to cast their vote for “The Best.” This annual vote is more popular than voting for the next president as southern Californians voice their opinion as to “who’s good” with two thumbs up.
Once a year, the Press Enterprise puts together the finest of the finest and people get to vote for their absolute favorite… favorite restaurant, favorite spa, best breakfast, best Italian restaurant… the list goes on and on.
Amongst the Best Antique Mall category, Granny’s Attic in Old Town Temecula, has won 1st Place three years-in-a-row. “We’re hoping to win 2012 as well,” states Mike Freville owner of Granny’s Attic. Granny’s has been a mainstay in southern California for nearly 20 years, but it’s morphed to not only a local attraction, but people from all over the U.S. travel there to shop for antiques. ”We have a lot of culture in our Mall and our dealers are from everywhere in the U.S., not just California,” states Freville.
One of the reasons why Granny’s has become a hotspot for decorators and antique collectors is that it’s gotten into the import business of buying European containers from eastern Europe. They’re the only antique mall in southern California that’s actively importing eastern European goods to America thus reaching the special buyers looking for rare and unique things. Word has spread quickly that whatever you need, you can find it at Granny’s. Sales have skyrocketed over the years in spite of a down economy.
“Our buyers sometime buy sight unseen just based on the description we’re giving them over the phone,” says the store manager, Helen. “The minute we announce the container’s in, the phonecalls and emails start pouring in,” she adds. The container sales have attracted not just antique buyers, but stagers, movie set people, and interior designers looking for the perfect piece and finding it. No wonder this antique mall remains a favorite in southern California.
The Press Enterprise's Readers’ Choice Award 2012 ballots are available so that you can choose your favorite business or establishment. You don’t have to answer every question but only the ones you wish to answer. The results will be tallied at the end of August and the deadline to cast your vote is at the end of this month, July 31. You can only vote once and multiple entries from the same IP address will be disqualified.
