Rules tightened on the sale of antique weapons - Leicester Mercury
A REVIEW into the way in which knives and guns are sold on Leicester's antique market is to be held.
Samurai swords, Gurkha knives and guns are frequently sold on the antiques market, which is held every Wednesday in the city.
It is not illegal to sell antique knives and weapons.
However, following a complaint from a concerned member of the public, a review has since taken place to ensure all antique weapons are stored and sold responsibly.
Market manager Nick Rhodes said: "I will be reviewing the way all guns and weapons are sold at the market following the complaint."
He said all antique weapons should be blunt, sold in accordance with the 2008 offensive weapons act and any guns stored in a locked, glass cabinet.
And he added: "We have not had any complaints prior to this and we are grateful to the person for raising the matter.
"The market has been extremely popular and we are really pleased with the general response it has had. We have traders come from far and wide and the public seem to really love it."
